About Marari Beach Resort
Settled in the fishing village of Mararikulam on the Malabar Coast, the Marari Beach Resort is located only 60 km from Cochin. The luxury Ayurveda Resort sprawls across 55 acres of lawns. Spread across the golden-sand shoreline, swaying palms, whispering groves of coconut trees, bordered by stony pathways. Running along the length of the property are palms that break the wind and act as a protective cover from gusty sea winds to soothing breeze. Beyond the charming property is an azure ocean and a picturesque view of the sand-meets-sea combination.
A strong emphasis is placed on environment, therefore the resort follows measures such as rainwater harvesting. Moreover, even the Marari Beach is a chemical-free zone where only natural oils and local remedies are used for pest control. Vermiculture and composting keep the soil fertile, both in the organic farm and on the grounds. In fact, you can not only see these activities at work, you can even participate! Help pick some seasonal fruit or even plant a tree or two. Tree and mangrove planting, solar water heating and training staff in conservation awareness. Most of the greens, fruits and vegetables for the restaurants come from its own organic garden, across the lane.
Accommodation and Food
Inspired from its location, Marari Beach Resort has accommodation Modelled on the fishermens' dwellings of Mararikulam. The cottage accommodations here are a fine balance between traditional form and modern comforts. The roof is palm-thatched with an added concrete base for better air-conditioning and the odd insect free. En suite bathrooms too are a fine blend of traditional Kerala open-roof with a range of modern fixtures. Outside each cottage are waters taps, a rather local touch as the fisher folk clean the sand off their feet before entering their dwellings, you could do the same. Marari beach as well as the entire property tempts you to be barefoot! The categories of accommodation include standard Garden villa cottages and pool villa cottages, which are suite-style with a secluded walled courtyard and a private pool.
The main restaurant of Marari is a spacious structure, serving Kerala cuisine buffet-style, along with a host of international favourites and of course, the freshest seafood available. Evenings are enlivened by some live music here. For relaxing drinks, the long Verandah is idyllic for a sundowner, while the Bar, set in a 200-year old building is wonderful. The clubhouse offers television (the only one on the premises) and a large selection of paperbacks in English, French and German.
Other Activities and Facilities
A fully-equipped Ayurveda center is the highlight of the Marari Beach Resort. Additionally, the property includes a large outdoor Swimming pool, tennis courts, beach volleyball, a souvenir shop, yoga, meditation and music classes. Also, there are regular cookery classes most evenings, so you can learn and enjoy Kerala cuisine even when you go back home. Marari is just the place, to wander about in the nearby villages, and you could even hire a bicycle to explore the surroundings.
Spa and Ayurveda
Marari Beach Ayurveda centre, follows the ancient traditions of Ayurveda with a touch of the modern wellness treatments. In the hands of expert masseurs and masseuses feel rejuvenated. In the extensive grounds of Marari, a wealth of medicinal plants, many of which are used in treatments at the ayurvedic centre are cultivated. Expert doctors guide the process after individual analyse and customisation of progamme along with diet.
