Arrival at Leh Airport. Meet the tour representative who will assist with transfer to Chamba Camp, Thiksey. Enjoy a traditional Ladakhi welcome. Complete check in formalities after which you shall be accompanied to the well-furnished luxury tent. No activities are planned for the day as it necessary to get acclimatized to the high-altitude and the low level of oxygen. Have a leisurely lunch. Relax in the comforts of your tent. Explore the surroundings of the campsite. The Thiksey hamlet enjoys serene setting where one can also interact with the local community. Start the day leisurely. Savour a delicious breakfast after which you are free to stroll around the property. The tents open up to views of lush pastures of alfalfa presenting a soothing sight. On your walk enjoy the serenity of wind blowing though willow trees, rustling leaves of poplar trees and unrivalled beauty. On your strolls through farmlands of Nyerma, get insight into the lifestyle. Opt to know more about local agricultural practices, ancient knowledge of medicinal herbs, and religious life in the nunnery. Return to the camp where savory lunch awaits. In the following afternoon, embark upon an excursion of Little Tibet, as the region is fondly known as, owing to the shared roots of history with Tibet. Pay a visit to the famous Matho Monastery. The ancient monastery dates back to the 15th century and is nestled on the mouth of a deep gorge of the Zanskar Mountain Range across the River Indus. Founded by Lama Dunpa Dorje of the Sakya Order the monastery has a treasure of six-hundred-year-old thangkas. Of note is, that the local women and passionate people from all over the world work for the conservation project. Later, proceed to explore the charming bylanes of Leh. The specially-curated Leh City Heritage walk lets you explore the old town. The imposing 17th century nine storied Leh Palace is the highlight of glorious empire. Stroll through the markets is amazing as you can explore locally-spun woollen clothing, rugs, yak fur and yak tail, traditional Buddhist prayer items. Shop for Pashmina shawls, Tibetan handicraft items, silver jewelry and traditional Ladakhi jewelry set with turquoise, jade and emerald. The heritage walk concludes near Chubi village. Here the vehicle will pick you up and take you to Shanti Stupa. The white-domed Peace Pagoda is the ideal setting to enjoy a relaxing sunset. Drive back to the campsite for a delicious dinner and comfortable overnight stay.
Following a lavish breakfast, embark upon excursion to explore the monastic treasure of Ladakh and spiritual bliss. Drive through picturesque landscape along the River Indus to arrive at the 11th century Alchi Monastery. Founded by Ringchen Zangpo, also known as the Great Translator, the monastery presents Kashmiri influence in its art and architecture. Marvel at the beautiful Tibetan and Gandhara style murals of Ladakh, frescos and images of the Buddha. Next, pay a visit to the 16th century Basgo fort. Literally meaning the "Cow's Head" in the local language, the fortress was the centre of religion and politics. Enjoy a delectable lunch in a picturesque setting in the hamlet of Nimmu on the way back to the Thiksey campsite. Alternatively, choose the optional rafting excursion. Enjoy a gentle trip down the Indus River, floating past traditional Ladakhi villages, enjoying the mesmerizing views. After a rafting expedition, hot lunch awaits amid the picturesque setting at Sangam, post which continue at the Alchi Monastery. On your way back, stop by at the hamlet of Nimmu to enjoy beautiful views and local hospitality. Post dinner, overnight stay in camp.
Start the day early with tea/coffee refreshments followed by a visit to the Thiksey monastery. Home to the two-storey statue of the Maitreya Buddha seated on a lotus, the holy monastery boasts of a spectacular view of the Leh valley. Here, have the privilege to participate in the sunrise ceremony of Buddhist morning prayer. Proceed with a guided tour of the monastery. Explore the beautiful prayer rooms to take a look at the many handwritten and painted books. Also perform prayers at the temple dedicated to goddess Tara with her 21 images placed in glass-covered wooden shelves. Also pray at the small shrines devoted to the guardian divinities including Cham-Sing, the protector deity of Thiksey. After sightseeing, relish a hearty breakfast. The rest of the morning is free. Relax and take in the pristine beauty of the surroundings. Post lunch at the campsite, proceed to explore the Hemis Monastery, the jewel in the crown of the Drukpa lineage. The biggest monastic institution of Ladakh is situated about 23 kilometers (45 mins) and belongs to the Drukpa School or the Dragon Order of Tibetan Buddhism. Built under the patronage of King Senge Namygal in the 17th century, this is where young lamas are taught literature, history, philosophy, yoga and tantra. There are no plans for today, you can spend at leisure. A lavish lunch is organized by the campsite in Thiksey. Choose to embark on an excursion to Pangong Lake. Enjoy the breath-taking views of the cerulean lake set amidst the lofty Himalaya Mountains. Watch the changing shades of blue with the ripples in the water. The view is soothing and one that makes you stop and watch the world go by. Alternatively, pay a visit to the village of Stok. Drive 19 kilometres (40 mins approx.) across the River Indus. Explore the beautiful medieval fortress, serving as the residence of the Queen Mother and Prince of Ladakh. Here pay a visit to the museum to admire at the interesting and priceless royal memorabilia. Take a look at the exquisite royal perak (headgear) embedded with priceless coral and turquoise. Exhibits include royal costumes, coins, photographs and paintings. Proceed for a visit to the Stok village to enjoy the rustic beauty of the village, glimpse at village life, and experience the quaint Ladakhi house to enjoy traditional hospitality. Another option you have is to take a day trip to the mesmerizing Tso Kar. Also known as the White Lake, the beauty lies beyond the dizzying heights of Tanglang La Pass (5,328 m/ 17,582 ft), said to be the world's second highest motorable pass. Also, close-by is the twin lake which also presents an ethereal sight. If chance permits, come across the "Chang Pas" home of the nomads of the trans–Himalayas. The nomads are primarily animal herders who are well-known for Pashmina goats popular for the luxurious 'Cashmere Wool'. Get back to the Chamba camp, Thiksey for dinner and overnight stay.
The tour ends today. Bid farewell to the heavenly landscape of Ladakh. Get assisted transfer to the Leh airport and board your flight to your onward destination.
