Deccan Odyssey’s luxury train tour covers the charms of India on an 8-day tour of Indian Odyssey. Start from the vibrant capital city Delhi. The Ranthambore National Park thrills with wildlife safari. Agra housing the Taj Mahal puts a spell with Mughal glory as does the cities of Jaipur and Udaipur with Rajputana grandeur along with Vadodara’s royal charms. The Ellora Caves take you back into the olden days before ending the tour at ‘city of dreams’ Mumbai. Journey across India, marvel at impressive architecture, explore world heritage sites along with fascinating experiences in addition of luxurious amenities and gracious services is reminiscent of the lifestyle lived by the maharajas in the erstwhile era.
Assemble at the Delhi railway station at 1700 hours to complete the formalities to board the
Deccan Odyssey. Following a traditional welcome and welcome drink, guests are shown to
their respected cabins.
Relax or check out the luxuries on-board as the train leaves for Sawai Madhopur. Dinner and
overnight stay onboard.
Arrive at Sawai Madhopur, where the train is stationed while you explore the popular
Ranthambore National Park. After a healthy breakfast on-board, and set out for the game
drive. Ranthambore National Park is among the most popular national parks in India.
Formerly, the hunting grounds of the royal family of Jaipur, it is now a tiger reserve with
healthy population of wildlife. Other than tigers, nilgai antelope, chinkara gazelles, sambhar
deer, chital, leopard, crocodile, and 270 species of birds, among others. Spot a tiger basking in
the sun or other wildlife species in their natural habitats.
A lavish spread for lunch awaits at the Deccan Odyssey. Return and relax for a while. Later,
proceed for a village tour and interact with locals. Halt at the Sawai Madhopur Lodge, the
royal hunting lodge for the erstwhile royal family of Jaipur for Hi-tea.
Get back to the train. Overnight stay and dinner onboard as the train proceeds to Agra.
Early in the morning, the luxury train arrives to the City of Taj, Agra. After a delicious breakfast
onboard, proceed to visit the Taj Mahal. Named among the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’, the
white-marble mausoleum stands as testimony of eternal love. The UNESCO World Heritage
Sites was built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife.
Proceed for lunch scheduled at a City Hotel. Later, pay a visit to Itmad-ud-Daulah (also known
as Baby Taj). Afterwards explore the popular Agra Fort, a specimen of Mughal grandeur. The
red sandstone fortress is counted among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India with
impressive palaces and other tourist attractions. Post sightseeing, shop in the local markets or
opt for spa sessions.
Return to the comforts of the luxury train and stay overnight.
Early morning, the luxury train chugs into Pink City, the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Start the
day with a lavish breakfast served onboard.
Disembark and leave for Amer Fort. Perched on the Aravali Range overlooking the city, the
yellow sandstone fortress dates back to the 16th century. Listed among Hill Forts of Rajasthan
along with few others, Amer is counted among UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India.
While on the way to Amer Fort, halt at iconic landmarks such as Hawa Mahal, City Palace and
Jantar Mantar. The icon of Jaipur, the 'Palace of Winds' Hawa Mahal is a monument intricately
designed like a honeycomb. Jantar Mantar, the royal observatory is a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. The 17th century architecture houses the world's largest stone sundial.
After sightseeing, proceed to a city hotel where mouth-watering lunch is arranged. Post lunch,
the day is free for optional activities. Either indulge in a relaxing spa session in a city hotel or
go shopping in the colorful markets of Jaipur stocked with handicrafts, paintings, bangles,
lehenga cholis and other knick-knacks.
Return to the comforts of luxury train. Treat your taste buds for a sumptuous dinner at the
onboard restaurants. While you get ready for bed, the train leaves for the next destination-
Udaipur.
On the fifth day of Indian Odyssey, the luxury train arrives to the 'City of Lakes' Udaipur. The
Aravali Range of mountains in the backdrop lend much of its spectacular beauty to the
scintillating lakes. Breakfast is served onboard.
Post breakfast, disembark for sightseeing. Explore the City Palace, one of the largest complex
in Rajasthan. Pay a visit to the beautiful Crystal Gallery housed in the complex.
Later, enjoy a ride on the ferry on the Lake Pichola in order to reach Jagmandir Palace. Lunch is
to be served at the exclusive venue of the 17th century palace set in the middle of the
cerulean Pichola Lake enjoying brilliant views of the Aravalis. Accompanying the savoury
platters are the taps of Tabla and rhythm of Jal Tarang.
Return to Deccan Odyssey to relax for some time. Later, disembark and proceed for a
heritage-walk through the Old Walled City of Jaipur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Be back onboard yet again in the evening. Dinner is served at the lavish restaurants of the
Deccan Odyssey. Rest for the night in the cabins as the train leaves for Vadodara.
Arrive at the Capital of Gaekwads, Vadodara in the morning. Enjoy a delicious breakfast
onboard. Later, disembark for sightaeeing.
Start by a visit to the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park. Belonging to the pre-Mughal
era, the Islamic city is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The attractive architecture is
the highlight of your visit. A noteworthy site is the Jami Masjid, a blend of Hindu and Islamic
architecture. Be back onboard the train for a leisurely lunch.
Later, deboard for a visit to the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum. An educational institute for
the children of the royal family in the erstwhile era till date it had lessons for visitors on
history, art and culture.
High Tea is scheduled at the Laxmi Vilas Palace, the royal residence of the imperial family of
Vadodara. Built in 1890, four times the size of Buckingham Palace, the palace is an
architectural wonder. Even more impressive is its collection of old armory, sculptures made of
marble, terracotta and bronze. At the royal palace treat your taste-buds with local delicacies
and your eyes with the cultural show.
Return onboard as the dinner gets served. As you prepare for overnight stay the train chugs
off for the next destination-Aurangabad.
On the seventh day of the tour, the train is to arrive at Aurangabad, the last of the great cities
of the Mughal Empire. Awake and spend the morning at leisure. After an unhurried breakfast
onboard, enjoy the comforts of the luxury train. As you ready for lunch, the train arrives in
Aurangabad.
Post lunch, disembark for a scenic drive to the Ellora Caves. Listed as UNESCO World Heritage
Sites, this consists of 30 rock-cut shrines. Dating back between the 4th and 5th century AD, the
caves are a treasure of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain forms of art, each a masterpiece crafted by
skilled artisans of the bygone era.
After you have enjoyed the marvelous sites, return to the comforts of luxury train. Relax with
a sun-downer at Mumbai-Hi, the onboard bar & lounge in the evening. Following dinner,
overnight stay onboard as train travels back to Mumbai.
The Deccan Odyssey reaches the final leg of its tour, Indian Odyssey, on the eighth day. The train stations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station of Mumbai. After having breakfast onboard, disembark and bid farewell with fond memories of the tour.
